What causes itching behind the eyes?

Hi Nancee, In all probability, the itching is due to eye allergies. Itching, tearing, mucus, burning are all symptoms of eye allergies. If you have already have nasal allergies, it's even more likely that eye allergies are at work. Common triggers are pollen, mold, smoke or strong fumes. Avoiding those may help prevent the itching. But, if not, you may need the help of medication. Oral antihistamines, such as Claritin, Zyrtec or Allegra may provide some relief. Even more effective, though, is an ocular antihistamine, such as Ketotifen eye drops. They are sold over the counter, and I've found they are extremely effective. If the problem persists, you should consider talking with your doctor. To your health, Kathi
