What Is A Comparable Medicine To Drixoral Cold And Allergy

Drixoral is a combination antihistamine and decongestant.

Decongestants work for colds because they relieve stuffy noses and chests.

Antihistamines are what work on allergies -- they relieve the sneezing, itchy eyes, itchy throat and runny nose.

Trinalin is also a combination decongestant and antihistamine like Drixoral.

There's also Alavert (which contains loratadine, an antihistamine, and pseudoephedrine, a decongestant).

Most other allergy drugs are antihistamines or corticosteroids (which are taken to reduce inflammation and swelling in the nasal passages).

You should ask your pharmacist about more drugs, their side effects and drug interactions.

Also, understand that colds and allergies are two completely different things.

Colds are caused by a virus and the symptoms (runny nose, cough, sore throat, congestiong, etc.) usually don't last more than a week.

Allergies, on the other hand, are caused by an immune system reaction to typically harmless things (pollen, proteins in food, dust, etc.). Symptoms can last as long as your exposed to the allergens. They may also occur at the same time every year, when certain pollens are prominent in the environment.

So, a cold medicine isn't necessarily designed for allergy relief. Likewise, allergy medicine isn't designed to treat allergy symptoms.
