What Does It Means If My Cholesterol Is 187 And My Ldl Is 134 An My Ldl:hdl Ratio Is 3.1?

Hi Medlab,

Here are the recommendations of the American Heart Association:

Total cholesterol less than 200
HDL cholesterol at least > 40, ideally > 60
LDL cholesterol at least less than 130, ideally less than 100
Triglycerides less than 150

If you follow these guidelines, your LDL cholesterol is slightly elevated even though your total is within normal. On the plus side your LDL to HDL ratio of 3.1 falls within the low risk category.

All the best,
