What Ingredients Are in Zanaflex?

A friend of mine told me that Zanaflex is half Zanex and half Flexeral but as I look it up all I find is that it's active ingredient is: Tizanidine. So please if you have any other information I would like to know because my doctor prescibed me 2mg of zanaflex before bed becasue I have trouble sleeping because of muscle pain in my back and I have been diagnosed with Rhuematoiod artheritis severe, also digenerative disc disease in my lower back. I have 3 discs already gone and I am trying not to have surgery. I would like to know all I can know about this new medication beacause I am allergic to a lot of meds so I can't take this untill I know.

"Please help"

As you already know, the active ingredient in Zanaflex is tizanidine. Tizanidine is a short-acting muscle relaxer that works by blocking nerve impulses (pain sensations) that are sent to your brain. Zanaflex is not a combination of Xanax and Flexeril. I suspect that rumor got started because of the similar sounding names (although Xanax actually starts with an "X" not a "Z"). Zanaflex and Flexeril work in similar ways (blocking nerve impulses to the brain), but are completely different drugs. The active ingredient in Flexeril is cyclobenzaprine.

I hope that helps.
