Bilberries contain carotenoids (i.e. carotene) and other pigments (anthocyanins) that are touted as being good for vision.

Intended uses: To improve eyesight, including night vision.

What the science says: No reliable scientific evidence supports the use of bilberry fruit or leaf for any reason.

Special precautions: Long-term safety and ideal dosage of bilberry not established. High doses and extended use may be toxic. Can lower glucose levels.

Common side effects: None reported.

Possible interactions: Aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, blood thinners, insulin, other diabetes drugs.
