What Is A Migraine Cocktail And Will It Help?

what is a migraine cocktail? Is it safe? I have high blood pressure and there is a family history of heart problems. I am worried about strong medicines. I have tried triptans in the past. They also mentioned benidryl and I take zyrtec every night, I doubt it is safe to mix the two....I am worried about stressing my heart overly. They won't tell me what is "IN" this "cocktail"....just that I cannot be alone and someone has to be with me to drive me.

Anyone have experiences with this???? I'm not sure I want to do this as I am unsure my headaches are of the same quality as they have been in past and my neurologist isn't listening. My family dr is...he's concerned. He IS listening., I'm passing out, having speech impairments etc and thats NOT part of my migraine cycles. I'm also having pain down my arm. I'm worried about stroke to be honest!!!! (one of the girls I know said I may have a ruptured disk in my neck too....that is causing all the pain when I turn my neck, it is VERY intense, its like really on a scale of one to ten I'd say 9 and they tell me not to take anything for it. My head is exploding and she tells me to lay off the pain killers.

Hi Linda,

I'm not sure there is a "migraine cocktail" per se, rather, a combination of drugs that is used to reduce the frequency and severity of your Migraine attacks.

If your PCP is concerned along with you, it sounds like it is time to see a Migraine specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Good luck
