What Can I Do About Numbness In My Hands And Fingers?

I am Type 2 diabetic, and I have neuropathy of my feet. Now, though, my legs are beginning to hurt when I stand up and walk. Is this a sign of peripheral artery disease (PAD)? I also have mild numbness in my hands and fingers. What can I do?

Answer

Hi Barbara,

You've obviously done some good research about this issue. Diabetics are much more likely to develop PAD than non-diabetics. In fact, some studies suggest that one in three diabetics over the age of 50 have PAD. PAD symptoms include pain in the legs, and numbness, tingling, and coldness in the lower legs and feet, so in your case I would definitely suggest you talk to your doctor about your symptoms. Let us know what your doc says! Best of luck.
