What Do Steroids Do To Help Cough?
I may have a sensory neuropathic cough. Will steroids help? I am on them now, but when I start going down a level I start coughing exactly the same way.
Hi Pat Black,
I'm sure you found an answer to your question long ago, but I wanted to chime in here in case this is helpful for someone else.
Corticosteroids work by decreasing inflammation, and by reducing the activity of your immune system. I'm sorry to hear you're not able to wean off of them. I do know that some people with a sensory neuropathic cough are helped by medications for peripheral neuropathy, so if the steroid isn't working you may talk to your doctor about your other options.
Come back and let us know how you're doing if you have a chance.
