What Is Wrong When You Have Leg Cramps And Inner Thigh Cramps Lasting More Than 5 To 10 Mins.

Every time I lay down I feel a soreness in my thighs that makes it hard to sleep. The soreness is always in this area, but when I sleep I have to be extremely careful when I move or I'm likely to have painful cramps. Does this sound like restless leg syndrome? It's been going on for years. Might it be polymyositis?

Answer

There is a type of cramp called a "rest cramp" that most often occurs when you're trying to rest. One idea is that hyperexcitable nerves cause the muscles to contract, putting them into a cramped state. One reason for cramping - especially as we age - is low calcium and magnesium levels, but many conditions can cause this.

The best recommendation I could find for rest cramps was to stretch the area out before you go to bed and any time the cramp hits or feels like its about to hit. You also might want to try a cal-mag solution you can find in health food stores. These two remedies together are supposed to be pretty effective.  You also want to make sure you're well hydrated; cramps can come about because of electrolyte imbalances and dehydration. A heating pad applied to the area in the evening may help as well.

There are lots of things that can cause cramps. Since this has gone on so long and it sounds like it's affecting your sleep, which can lead to other health problems, so if you haven't seen a doctor you should consider seeing one.
