Whats The Difference/ Preferred Anxiety Med Between Lorazepam 1mg And Valium?

I have a perscription for Lorazepam 1mg, to take as needed. I just wondered how it compares to Valium. Which is better? Or are they different?

Angie - Both are members of the benzodiazepine family. Lorazepam is more potent (i.e. 1mg of Lorazepam is roughly equivalent to 10mg of Valium) and is considered to be an intermediate acting benzodiazepine. Valium is a long acting benzodiazepine. Both are very effective for anxiety and have significant addictive potential. Which of these is best for you is a matter of your level of anxiety, general health, and other factors which you should be discussing with your prescribing physician.
