Why Did My Doctor Order ‘Emergency Mammogram And Ultrasound’?
It sounds like he or she is concerned that you might have breast cancer and/or some sort of infection that would need prompt treatment. In some areas, a routine order for a mammogram could take several weeks to schedule, and apparently your doctor feels the need to get the info sooner. Your doctor should have explained more to you about why this test was ordered so quickly. Most lumps turn out to be benign, so try not to stress too much. Be sure to ask your doctor plenty of questions about all tests ordered. Also ask the mammogram technologist plenty of questions. Usually the person doing the ultrasound will let you look at the screen if you ask and will point out cysts, etc. on the screen.
