Why Does My Lips Feel Itchy And Burning Whenever I Eat Anything Also They Feel Rough To Touch?

Whenever I eat anything my lips begin to feel itchy and burn. They also feel rough like sandpaper. My Doctor gave me some type of steroid based cream but it hasn't done anything to help. He sent me to a specialist who told me not to eat any type of mint but still I have this problem.

Answer

Have you stopped eating the mint? If you haven't, I tried that first since the specialist recommended it. Mint can be found in many foods, so read the labels carefully. If you're dining out, ask the manager or chef if any foods contain mint of if they use mint a lot in the kitchen. If they do, you may want to eat somewhere else. If the problem gets better when you avoid mint, then you know what to do!

If the steroid cream isn't working and other foods seem to cause the problem, then you need to see an allergist who can help you determine if the itchiness and burning is, in fact, caused by an allergy. It may be something else entirely, but this will help you find out.
