Why Take Prevacid In The Morning When Acid Reflex Is At Night
Why do doctors prescribe Prevacid to be taken in the morning, when acid reflux is often felt most at night? Can I take it at night instead?
The prescribing information states that Prevacid should be taken 15-30 minutes before a meal with a cool glass of water. It also states you should take it the same time each day. In addition it says that the peak for the medication is 0.5-3.5 hours after you take it.
So, it does not in fact say you need to take it in the morning but the assumption can be that if it is a 24 hour medication and you take it before bed and it takes up to 3.5 hours to fully get into your system, then possibly you would be at your lowest level just after you take it. Additionally, you are unlikely to eat a meal just before bed. That said, there's nothing to say you couldn't take it before dinner.
I'd suggest you call your local pharmacist and ask your question. Pharmacists are often overlooked health professionals, particularly when it comes to questions about the best timing for your medications.
