Will Rheumatoid Arthritis Effect Career Plan?

I am getting ready to take my physical and written exam for a police department. I was wondering if the fact that I was just diagnosed today will it effect me from becoming a police officer? I do not want it to although I know that it can be painful some days. If anyone can help me and let me know and let me know what I can do to help get through any pain that is in my future. I am only 22 years old and have never had any pain yet the doctor said it could start effecting me sometime in the future relatively soon. I appreciate any help and my email is claud.beck@gmail.com.

Thank you,

before I get to your question, a piece of advice. Don't put your e-mail on public websites - it can be sucked up by spambots and as someone who's gone through having to delete 11,000 e-mails over a weekend, I can tell you that you don't want it to happen.

A diagnosis of RA today is very different than it was 10 years ago. the biologic medications have created a situation in which it is quite likely that you can function very well for a long time. The important thing is to get a good rheumatologist who will work with you to make that happen. Still, as someone else mentioned, it's never a bad idea to have a backup plan. You may want to check out my post on working with RA and going back to school (for that backup plan).

Good luck!
