I Woke Up This Morning With Shooting Pains And Terrible Soreness In My Left Breast And Armpit

Ok so I woke up this morning with a puffy armpit and shooting pains and soreness on the outer side of my left breast and up into my armpit. It is very sore to the touch and my breast just feels extra heavy today even though it is not swollen. I cannot feel any lumps or swollen lymph nodes. My mom passed away in March from B cell lymphoma, all of her lymphnodes that had cancer in them (which was eventually all of them) were very painful, even though most of them you could not feel through touch or physical exam. Anyone who says that pain is not a symptom of cancer does not know what they are talking about! I watched my mom in pain through the WHOLE thing, she was in pain even before she was diagnosed. My mom was only 50 when she passed and I am only 27, and very scared of cancer. Please help if you have suggestions!

Answer

Hi - I'm sorry you're having to go through this stressful experience. You should be aware that your mom having passed away from lymphoma doesn't increase your risk of breast cancer, OK? I'm glad your physical went well last week - you didn't say if a mammogram was part of the process? Although these symptoms don't sound like breast cancer symptoms, perhaps you should call the doctor and describe them. S/he may want to take a look; you may have an infection and, if so, it should be treated before it gets worse. Good luck - hope you feel beter soon! PJH

P.S. The symptoms you describe in your next question don't change my advice here.
