I Am 27 Years Old And Found A Lump In My Left Breast.i Went For Ultrasound And Found Out I Have Multiple In My Right Breast Too.

Doc said its due to hormonal imbalance & schedule for another ultrasound after few months. Sometimes I have this sharp pain that comes and go (last few seconds) randomly anywhere in breast. Should I take second opnion or this is normal. I am asian descent and no family history of breast cancer.

Answer

At your age, this is most likely fibrocystic change, a basically harmless but irritating condition that can cause lumps, cysts, and pain in your breasts. The fact that you have palpable lumps in both breasts speaks to this probably NOT being cancer; cancer very, very rarely shows symptoms in both breasts at once. Pain is also not a breast cancer symptom - and pain IS a fibrocystic change symptom. So the doctor is probably right.

You might want a mammogram instead of an ultrasound somewhere along the way, just to get a clearer picture; mammograms are better at "seeing" certain kinds of lumps. Getting a second opinion never hurts; but unless you think this is really going to stress you out, I'd follow your doctor's advice. Take care- PJH
