In laser angioplasty, excimer laser catheters use laser energy in conjunction with angioplasty to open narrowed coronary blood vessels.


Researchers believe laser angioplasty will eventually be used to control or relieve anginal symptoms, improve exercise tolerance, and prevent myocardial infarction in patients with coronary artery disease.
