What DME Treatment Advances are You Most Excited About?
There's good reason to be hopeful about the future if you have diabetic macular edema.
Frank Siringo, M.D., O.D., chief of vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at Omni Eye Specialists in Denver, discusses the new, exciting treatment options that will be available soon for diabetic macular edema.
With DME, there are some treatments now that can work for two or three years, and these are some of the steroids which have some side effects that we have to pay attention to. The prospect of giving a patient one injection that can last for a couple of years, is very exciting. On the anti-VEGF side, the newer drugs will have a longer treatment interval. Some of them may sort of degrade in the eye over many, many months and not just one month. Some may be surgically implantable as well.
